Wedding Invitation Etiquette

Are you one of those brides or grooms who have not the faintest idea on how to begin wording your wedding invitations? I’ve been asked on many occasions to assist with putting together wording for an invitation and I’ve also responded by sending links of some I’ve found on the web or from samples we’ve done. I just have a problem with using one standard template because I’ve found that things have changed so much these days that you just have to kraft your wording to suit your situation so as not to offend any “FAMILY MEMBERS”..Lol! Now, some of you know, that I am speaking the truth…..

I’ve selected some of my favorite wedding invitation etiquette advise from a post on Martha Stewart Weddings. You can read the entire post here - http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/photogallery/invitation-wording#slide_2

- Host Line: Start with the names of those issuing the invitation, traditionally the bride’s parents. Evolving family structures and financial dynamics often make this the trickiest part of the process, so follow the format that best fits your situation.

- Divorced Parents: Names are listed on separate lines without an “and” between them, and remember that Mom always comes first. If mom is remarried, use her married name; the oldest etiquette omits all stepparents, though you can add them if you like. If a remarried parent has a different surname from his or her spouse, put the birth parent first. If you must break the line, do it before the “and.”

- Deceased Parent(s): It’s not traditional to include a deceased parent, but many people feel strongly about doing so. This wording should make it clear that the deceased parent is not issuing the invitation. (Courtesy titles would be awkward and are omitted.)

- Social Titles: You don’t have to use courtesy titles (Mr., Mrs., etc.) and middle names, but it’s most traditional and formal. When titles other than Mr. and Mrs. are used, spell them out. The parent who has such a title is listed first: Doctor and Mrs., or Doctor Jane Marie Williams and Mr. John Michael Williams. If you’re looking for a little less formality — and a chance to list the first name of a married woman — omit courtesy titles entirely. In some instances, as with the example for a deceased parent, using this format will avoid some grammatical awkwardness; if you choose this option, it’s best to omit middle names too.

- Date & Time: Don’t worry about using a.m. or p.m., or a phrase such as “in the evening,” unless the wedding will be held at 8, 9, or 10 o’clock. The year is traditionally omitted as well, but it is sometimes included for the invitation’s keepsake value.

Traditional
Spell out numbers and capitalize proper nouns only; you can begin the line with the preposition “on” if you’d like.

Contemporary
Though using numerals is a more modern practice, it is not necessarily more casual.

Hope this post has helped one or two engaged couples’ out there….

Getting krafty with hanging wall letters…

Hello friends! So, I was feeling a ‘lil crafty yesterday and decided to make the custom hanging wall letters for T&F’s room. After about 2 hours of getting messy with tacky glue, and utilizing stenciled alphabet letters, patterned paper and ribbons, this is what I came up with. You like?

I’ve always wanted to get them for the boy’s room but moreso, was determined to make them myself. We’ll be happy to create one for your ‘lil ones room so contact us if you’re interested…Til later lovelies…

You play a BIG part in designing your invitation…..

How many of you out there really get involved in nitty gritty crafting; creating all sorts of fluffy cute party pom poms, personalized gift tags and own all sorts of tools such as the Silhoutte, Xyron, or Cricut machines? We would like to know so do share. We may just have something up our sleeves. Shoot me an email – ata@inkhearts.com to get further details.

Now, on another note, thought I’d share two invitations (one a traditional ceremony invite and the other a birthday invite).

Both clients knew exactly what they wanted and actually designed their cards but contracted Inkhearts to supply the cardstock + envelopes and offer assembly + printing services. So see, we weren’t kidding when our headline read “you play a big part……”

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!!

Storyboards…..

Oh! Dear… It’s been ages since I blogged, which is so shameful. Work, the summer holidays coupled with a few dry spells clouding my mind/brain is SOLELY to blame. Let’s hope that’s all behind me now!

Sooooo lovelies, STORYBOARDS! Sound familiar….To put it simply in my terms, storyboards evoke visual color, mood, setting & theme inspirations for whatever concept you are trying to bring to life. Not quite sure why it took me so long to present these to clients but it’ll definitely be f.i.x.e.d part of our world from now on.

While seriously contemplating participating in an upcoming exhibition, I was pulling out my hair trying to come up a visual theme for my potential booth (If anyone knows me, I am all about presentation). Putting together this storyboard kinda put things in perspective.

Up for Sale….

Hi Guys, I have been so bad as I haven’t blogged in a bit. I’ve been away for 6 weeks and what was meant to be a vacay turned out to be such a workout. Again, will spare you the details.

While on this trip, I did a lot of online shopping (which was a first for me especially in the clothing department) and in the process, bought a dress which is a size too big and a lil busy for my taste if you ask me. Dunno, what I was thinking but as the saying goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Please don’t take that quote literally! I have therefore decided to attempt to sell and if that doesn’t work out, I’ll just keep it……

DETAILS:

- white/ivory (therefore cannot be worn to a wedding as a guest and too intricate for party hopping/clubbing unless you’re the celebrant. I envision a bride wearing it to the reception if she plans on doing a wedding gown/cocktail switcheroo)

- american size 6

- one shoulder/above the knee

- silk chiffon

- a lot of details (rosettes, swag, ruching)

- designer Ali Ro

If you are interested or know someone who just might be, shoot me an email - ata@inkhearts.com. I will be glad to send pictures as well.
